Are Billboards a good form of advertising?

In the past, we had painted billboards, now we have electronic billboards.  But are they worth it?

Billboard advertising is effective for building brand awareness and broadcasting your business (or product or campaign) to as many people as possible. Because they’re in such busy areas, billboards tend to have the highest number of views and impressions when compared to other marketing methods.

Billboards are a very effective form of advertising due to their large size and ability to reach a wide audience. However, there are some drawbacks to using billboards for advertising. First, billboards take up valuable real estate that could be used for other purposes. Second, billboards can be distracting for drivers and can potentially lead to accidents if they are not placed carefully. Finally, billboards can be costly to lease and maintain.

On the other hand, with the advent of electronic billboards, many are starting to question whether billboards are still a viable marketing strategy.

Many businesses continue to rely on billboards as a key component of their marketing strategies. Whether it is through traditional billboards or electronic billboards that display dynamic content and integrate seamlessly into digital marketing campaigns, billboards can be an effective way to reach consumers and promote your brand.

When used correctly, billboards can be a powerful marketing tool that helps businesses reach their target audiences effectively. If you are considering using billboards as part of your marketing strategy, it is important to work with a reputable company that has experience designing and placing billboards. Additionally, be sure to place your billboards in strategic locations where they will be most effective in reaching your target audience. With careful planning and execution, billboards can be a highly effective marketing strategy that can help take your business to the next level.

There are many types of billboards to choose from:

Bulletin Billboard

When you think of a classic, traditional billboard, you’re probably thinking of a bulletin board. They’re 14 feet high and 48 feet wide so that people driving and walking by can easily read them. These are typically found on:

  • Expressways
  • Highways
  • Roads with heavy, dense traffic

Digital Billboard

In busy centrals, you can find digital billboards displaying everything from ads to stock market prices. Because they’re impossible to look away from, they are typically placed in crowded areas so that the maximum number of people can see them.

Mobile Billboard

Mobile billboards are what the name suggests: an advertisement on wheels.

Mobile billboards can get around, which is why they’re perfect for bigger events. They can follow the target audience and cover a lot of ground. Since these aren’t static like most billboards, they can cost $250 to $3,600 depending on how many vehicles are involved and for how long.

The advantages?

  • Low competition from other billboards
  • Access places that static billboards can’t
  • Targets a wider audience i.e. pedestrians, drivers, highways, and suburban streets

Painted Billboard

Painted billboards are a rarity due to the increase in graphic billboards, but they’re still used in some places. The ads and messages on those billboards are painted by hand. These can cost roughly $5 per square foot.

Scented Billboard

Ever seen a billboard you could smell? These tend to be rare, but are effective at leaving a lasting memory on the audience. A notable example is when Bloom Grocery Store used a scented billboard that smelled like grilled steak to promote its new line of beef.2 The cost for these can range from over a hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars per month.

These are effective for any products or businesses where the smell is important such as:

  • Restaurants
  • Perfumes
  • Dog food
  • Grocery stores

Three-Dimensional Billboards

Three-dimensional billboards are the option that offers the most creative flexibility because the ad literally pops out at onlookers.

These billboards are meant to draw attention which means more focus placed on your product or service. They’re an immersive experience that is guaranteed to catch the eyes of your target audience.

The price for these depends heavily on the production cost. The grander the idea, the more it’s going to cost.

Vinyl Billboard

This eye-catching option is brighter and more appealing than your standard, traditional billboards. While vinyl can come in the same 14×48 size as bulletin boards, their biggest selling point is their bright exterior and that they are coated in UV-protected paint to ensure longevity. This means they can last for years, but they can also be upcycled.

What promotions do they work best for? They are often the first choice when a business wants to display their logo and also for businesses with long-term promotions.

These billboards are charged according to square footage. A rough average cost is $850.

PizzaBox Toppers – advertisements placed on pizza box tops – which are good if you are marketing a business or product in a specific area.
